The Convention Centre Dublin to host The European Elections Congress 2014
DUBLIN – 26 June 2013 – The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) has been selected as the venue for the European Elections Congress in March 2014. Fine Gael (Ireland’s current governing party) will host the Congress, which will launch the election campaign of the European People’s Party (EPP).
2,000 delegates are expected to attend the two day Congress which will launch the EPP’s campaign for the 2014 European Parliament elections, by approving its manifesto and selecting the EPP’s candidate for President of the European Commission. Starting from Dublin, the EPP presidential candidate will campaign in all Member States of the European Union until the scheduled European elections in May 2014.
Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, Enda Kenny T.D., comments “I am delighted that the European People’s Party has decided to hold this very important Congress in Dublin. The Congress will be a welcome boost for Dublin and will have a knock on effect on the local economy”.
The EPP is the largest political party at European level, with 13 EU heads of government, 13 members of the European Commission and 73 member parties across 40 countries. The Congress will bring together heads of government, party leaders, ministers, national and European parliamentarians, and delegates from all EPP member parties throughout Europe.
