The Convention Centre Dublin Hosts World Record Attempt!
Dublin - 21 January, 2013 – Ireland’s dance and ballet community came out in force yesterday to attempt a new Guinness World Record for ‘most ballet dancers standing En Pointe’ at The Convention Centre Dublin.
The event, run by the Monica Loughman Ballet, attracted 161 dancers, but unfortunately this wasn’t enough to beat the current record of 245 dancers ‘en pointe’ held by the USA. It can however claim the title of the most people to stand ‘en pointe’ in Ireland for 1 minute!
The record-breaking attempt was held in aid of The Sunni Mae Trust. Loughman commented on this show of support for ‘Tiny Dancer’ Lily-Mae Morrison, the four-year-old suffering from a rare form of cancer, and her parents Judith Sibley and Leighton Morrison who are involved in the dancing community, “I wanted to show our support for the Sunni Mae Trust and let Judith and Leighton know that the dance community in Ireland is behind them in their ongoing fight for Lily-Mae’s life.”
The event raised €1,460 for the charity, and was attended by Jimmy Deenihan,T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht. This year, Monica Loughman Ballet also received a business priming grant to develop the full time International Academy of Russian Ballet.
