The Convention Centre Dublin to ‘light up green’ for St. Patrick’s Festival

DUBLIN – 14 March 2016 – The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) will be lighting its signature atrium green again this year, as part of Tourism Ireland's annual Global Greening initiative for St. Patrick’s Festival.

The unique global campaign sees some of the world’s most famous attractions and sites ‘go green’ to mark St Patrick’s Day. The Colosseum in Rome, the ‘Welcome’ sign in Las Vegas, the London Eye, the Allianz Arena in Munich, the Empire State Building in New York, the Niagra Falls, Table Mountain in South Africa, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, the Sky Tower in Auckland as well as The CCD are some ‘old favourites’ which have gone green in previous years.

The Global Greening initiative has gone from strength to strength, and joining the ‘old favourites’ in 2016 are a number of new sites. 7 World Trade Centre at Ground Zero in New York, the famous Big Wheel on Place de la Concorde in Paris, the light rail system in Addis Ababa, City Hall in Tel Aviv, Boston Red Sox Fenway Park, the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Mount Ulriken TV mast in Bergen, Porte Dijeaux in Bordeaux, Monza’s Villa Reale in Italy and the Hofbräuhaus in Munich.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “This is the seventh year of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative and each year I am delighted to see even more well-known attractions and landmark sites wishing to get involved and join our St Patrick’s celebrations.

St. Patrick's Festival takes place from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 March 2016.
